Sat, 27 December 2008: The Periodic Table of Ailments (Elemental Cookies)
Posted by Leng at 00:04 while listening to "Rain On Me" by Tamia and feeling Happy.
Ever since I saw the Instructable on Cookie Periodic Table aka. "The Periodic Table of Aliments", I have been itching to try and make a version, so here are the results.
Aim
To make a periodic table of cookies, you will need:
- Some cookie dough - buy from store or make your own. I chose to make my own.
- Baking paper, some scrap paper, cling wrap, sticky tape, a ruler and writing implement. A pencil is advisable.
- Rolling pin
- A sharp knife
- Baking trays
- Icing sugar, a bowl, an egg, half a lemon and a whisk
Method
- Construct a grid on baking paper so your cookies come out evenly spaced. I tried making them without a grid and they did not come out uniformly at all. I made a 4 cm by 4 cm grid so the cookies would be bite-sized. I suggest this to be a minimum size, since if it gets any smaller, it will be really hard to name the cookies later on.
- Once you've drawn your grid, flip the baking paper over and tape it down to the scrap paper, then cling wrap it and tape down the cling wrap for good measure, because you don't want to be eating lead/ink contaminated cookies. The Instructable used a huge contacted scale model of the periodic table itself, but this: (a) seemed excessive; (b) required more/bigger baking paper/effort than I had; and (c) didn't seem as hygienic (Contact? Who knows where that's been?!).
